The Made in China Goods Traders Association of Nigeria has appealed to the Chinese Consulate in Lagos for support in several areas, including cataract treatment, artificial intelligence training, scholarships and participation in major trade exhibitions in China.
The association made the request in a letter signed by its National President, Oluwole Adigun, and addressed to the Chinese Consul-General in Lagos, Mrs Yan Yuqing.
According to the association, the request followed the participation of its executives in a Bamboo and Rattan Seminar organised by Chinese authorities.
REQUEST FOR CATARACT TREATMENT
One of the major requests made by the traders was for the Chinese Consulate to support or facilitate a cataract treatment programme for less privileged residents within Lagos.
The association said such an initiative would help restore the sight of vulnerable people who may not have the financial means to undergo cataract surgery.
It also expressed its readiness to work with the Consulate to identify beneficiaries and coordinate the medical outreach.
TRADERS SEEK AI TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES
The association also appealed for qualified members to be considered for the Chinese Government's programme to train 5,000 Nigerians in artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies.
According to Adigun, access to such training would help members develop new skills and improve their ability to contribute to Nigeria's economic and technological development.
SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
The traders further requested access to undergraduate and master's degree scholarship opportunities provided by the Chinese Government.
The association believes that such educational opportunities would help strengthen the knowledge and professional capacity of its members.
REQUEST TO ATTEND MAJOR CHINESE TRADE EXHIBITIONS
On trade, the association asked the Chinese Consulate to assist its members in participating in two major international exhibitions in China.
The exhibitions include the China Import and Export Fair, popularly known as the Canton Fair, scheduled to take place in Guangzhou from October 15 to November 4, 2026, and the China International Import Expo, scheduled for November 5 to 10, 2026, in Shanghai.
The association said participation in the exhibitions would allow its members from different parts of Nigeria to establish new business contacts, explore markets and develop investment partnerships.
It added that such engagements could encourage technology transfer and strengthen trade relations between Nigeria and China.
ASSOCIATION APPRECIATES CHINESE GOVERNMENT
Adigun also expressed appreciation to the Chinese Consul-General for organising the Bamboo and Rattan Seminar.
He said the programme had improved the executives' understanding of how bamboo and rattan could be used for sustainable development and economic empowerment.
He added that the association would apply the knowledge gained from the programme to benefit its members and their communities.
The association also expressed appreciation to the Chinese Government and its representatives for their friendship and support towards Nigeria.
The Made in China Goods Traders Association of Nigeria represents traders operating across several states in the country and engaged in various trading activities.
